I am a big fan of yummy chocolaty thing! Cakes, ice-creams, sweets and candy…YUM! When eating in moderation, it is good for your health but too much consumption will do otherwise. That’s why I absolutely love to use it in my soapy and body care products whenever I can. It does amazing thing to your skin without having any worry to the calories.
Currently I’ve only used two forms of cocoa, namely cocoa butter and cocoa powder. There’s cocoa absolute that I would love to get my hands on, but that will have to wait for now. While cocoa powder are mostly used for its color, I use cocoa butter due to its wondrous benefits to our skin, not to mention it smells yummy too! So, what’s so great about cocoa butter for skin? Here are some of the benefits that I’ve compiled based on what I’ve studied and experimented on so far…
1. Softer, smoother skin – Cocoa butter is high in fatty acids and is able to hydrate the skin deeply. Even though it is solid hard in room temperature, when applied onto skin directly, it naturally melts away and provide a protective barrier which helps to lock the moisture and goodness in.
2. Great antioxidant source – Cocoa butter is high in antioxidants, which help fight off free radical. Free radicals are causes of stressed skin and signs of aging. In a way, it helps to save your skin from the inevitable signs of aging and environmental stressors. Apply on skin or eat it, whatever your choice might be. Just take note of your calories if you do eat it. *wink*
3. Stretch mark reducer – well… you do see it appearing in most of the anti stretch mark products out there. Actually, it does not remove stretch mark what people are lead to believe. It is used to assist the process of skin regeneration due to its antioxidant properties, thus reducing the visibility of stretch marks. Prevention is better than cure, thus it is advisable to start applying it on your skin even before the stretch mark starts to happen. Being heavily pregnant twice, believe me, stretch marks are no fun at all!
4. Soothes sensitive skin – again, due to its high emollient and moisturizing properties, cocoa butter are good at protecting skin from heat, soothes skin problems such as eczema and dermatitis.
